The Municipality of Viseu has, as of today, a platform for the promotion of cultural agents in the area of performing arts that aims to contribute to a more diverse and inclusive troupe.
“The idea is to be a platform that brings people together, in order to make work in the performing arts more effective and diversified”, Guilherme Gomes, coordinator of the CRETA project, told Lusa Hoje.
The Companhia Residente platform, launched today, is promoted by the project CRETA – Laboratório de Criação Teatral and has the support of the Municipality of Viseu (through Eixo Cultura).
According to Guilherme Gomes, it is “a platform for professionals to cross”, because in Viseu “there are in fact many people with very different professions and all linked to the performing arts”.
“We want to contribute to more diverse teams so that people remember other people to work with and careers that they wouldn’t normally remember being part of a team,” explained the actor, director and playwright.
Anyone who wants to create a team can access the platform (companhiarsidente.pt) and see, for example, which actors, designers, sound and light operators or producers are in Viseu.
“We always end up working with people we know and, in a way, the circuit is connected. This is an attempt to break these duplicates and try to contribute to the professionals based in Viseu being able to work, even if they are not yet integrated into the circuit”, justifies Guilherme Gomes.
Even before today, the day of the official launch of the platform, there were already 14 subscribers, responding to 24 professions, from actors to Portuguese Sign Language interpreters, passing through narrators of voices and musical composers.
“The idea is to respond to the complexity of what scenic art is today, which must also be concerned with video, accessibility and translation”, stressed the playwright.
At the moment the project will work locally, responding to the realities of the municipality of Viseu, but the dream is that it can grow.
“According to the response we got, let’s see if this can grow nationally,” he added.
