Australia expanded sanctions against Russia on Friday, including against 11 banks and other government agencies, as well as billionaires Oleg Deripaska and Viktor Vekselberg.
According to Australia’s Foreign Minister Marise Payne, the sanctions now cover most of the assets of Russian banks, as well as all entities that deal with Russian sovereign debt.
Australia had previously imposed sanctions on 41 Russian rulers and their immediate family members, and worked in concert with allied countries to increase pressure on Moscow following the invasion of Ukraine.
