Beware of Mosquitoes and Moths
To avoid humidity, it is best to keep the bookcase away from the wall. If the books smell of mold and moths, choose a well-ventilated place, without sunlight, to leave them for a few days. To avoid moths, avoid leaving books in the bins and throwing away food scraps, as this attracts the insects.
Keep books and shelves clean
The ideal is to clean the books at least twice a year. To do this, use a clean, dry and soft cloth. Scrolling with a soft-bristled brush helps clean the corners and tops of books.
To bookmark pages
Use specially designed markers for this. Do not use the “ears” of the book as a bookmark, as this can tear and damage the book. Also, do not use clips as they will rust and damage the blades.
Store books properly
Try to store books on shelves, preferably vertically and no books lying horizontally on top of them. Pressing one against the other can damage the binding and spine of the books.
Books are not covered.
Hardcover books can make staining easier, as they prevent the paper from breathing.
