Magazine Luiza (MGLU3) founder, businesswoman Luiza Trajano, has returned to the Forbes Global Billionaires List. Trajano has a fortune estimated at US$1.1 billion (R$5.7 billion) and, until this morning, she was ranked 2,423 in the Forbes ranking of the richest people in the world, updated in real time.
The businesswoman had left the list in 2022, when the shares of Magazine Luiza plummeted almost 90% in 11 months. However, the retailer’s shares have risen 65.64% since the beginning of the year and are trading at R$ 4.29 before the stock market opens this Thursday.
The appreciation of the shares of Magazine Luiza occurs after the discovery of “accounting inconsistencies” in the value of R$ 20 billion and the request for judicial recovery by Americanas (AMER3) – see the entire history of the company’s bankruptcy here. Americanas shares melted after the announcement of the accounting deficit. The retailer’s shares, accumulated in the year, fell more than 76%, going from a maximum of R$ 12 to less than R$ 1 in the year.
In the 36th edition of the Forbes billionaires list, the magazine calculated that in the year 2022 there were 2,668 people with a net worth of more than US$1 billion, a lower number than that registered in 2021. The richest Brazilian, Jorge Paulo Lemann , was out of the Top 100. See more details here.
