This Wednesday, the Portuguese Animated Cinema celebrates its centenary, beginning with the premiere of “The Nightmare of Antonio María”, by Joaquim Guerrero, a short film whose reconstruction can be seen today at Batalha – Cinema Center, in Porto, in a session organized by Casa da Animación.

The short film “La Pesadilla de Antonio María” by cartoonist Joaquim Guerrero, a satire of the politician Antonio María Silva, from the First Republic, was screened on January 25, 1923, at the Edén Theater in Lisbon, and was presented as the beginning from the Portuguese cartoon adventure.
With no record of copies of the original film, the version that is preserved today is a partial remake, three minutes long, in a reissue made from 2001 by the producer and director Paulo Cambraia, one of the animation film experts. in Portugal.
